FIRST AID KIT FOR PIGS

Every pig owner needs to be ready for an emergency with their pig. Always keep your veterinarian's phone number in easy reach. He/she is the first one to call. Also have a back up veterinarian and number whenever possible.

Below are items to keep on hand.

First-Aid Box for the pet pig(s)

Thermometer (digital is bet as it works quickly)
Stethoscope
Bag Balm
Betadine Scrub
Cranberry Juice
Infalyte or Pedialyte
LA200 and/or Penicillin (can be purchased at most farm stores)
Needles and syringes
Canned pumpkin for constipation
Pepto Bismol or Kaopectate
Peroxide and/or alcohol
Triple antibiotic ointment
Baby Aspirin or Ascriptin (coated asprin)
Ammonium Chloride
Benadryl
Dectomax or Ivermectin
         Sterile water

For when you have piglets (breeding or rescuing)
50% Dextrose
Biosol
        Oxytocin
Iodine
Lutalyse
Milk replacer or goat milk or even 2% will work
Acidophilus
Poly Visor Baby vitamins with iron
         Baby Rice Cereal

Always consult your veterinarian before administering any medication.

Always ask questions of more knowledgeable people but only after talking with your veterinarian first.
